FIRST GENERATION

1. Benjamin¹ STEWART was born about 1813 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He died on 14 MAR 1896 in Muskegon Co., Michigan, USA. He died of "canser" according to his death record. The Stewart-Hillard Reunion Papers cite death date only as March 1896. The death record is consistent with that and also gives the day of his death.

He was married to Rachel SYERS before 1840 in Pennsylvania, USA, most likely. The marriage date and place of Benjamin and Rachel are an estimate based on the date and place of birth of their first child. Benjamin and Rachel appeared on the 1850 U.S. Census in Erwin Twp., Steuben Co., Michigan. Soon after that census they moved to Chester Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan where they appeared on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 U.S. Censuses. Rachel SYERS was born on 17 DEC 1807. She died on 28 FEB 1883 in Ottawa Co., Michigan, most likely.
