7. Charles Ewells² STEWART (Benjamin¹ STEWART) was born on 6 APR 1853 in Steuben Co., New York. He appeared on the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Censuses with his parents in Chester Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan. These two census records suggest his birth year may have actually been in 1851. He died on 30 AUG 1926 in Wright Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan. His Death Record indicates the cause of death was, "Accid. death caused by falling." It was reported that he was visiting relatives near Conklin, Michigan. They were having a big party. Charles opened a door leading to the stairwell (probably the basement) thinking it led to another room. He accidently fell down stairs and hit his head which killed him.

He was married to Mary Elizabeth HILLARD (daughter of Henry J. HILLARD and Harriet FIELD) on 4 JUL 1876 in Howard City, Montcalm Co., Michigan, USA. Charles and Mary appeared on the 1880 U.S. Census in Chester Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan. Somewhere in the 1884 to 1886 time frame they moved to Meauwataka, Michigan. They appeared on the 1900 and 1910 U.S. Censuses in Colfax, Wexford Co., Michigan which is where Meauwataka is located. Mary Elizabeth HILLARD was born on 2 JUN 1858 in Conklin, Ottawa Co., Michigan, USA. In 1860 she appeared on the U.S. Census with her parents in Chester Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan. Ten years later she appeared on the census with her father and step mother in Wright Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan. She died on 4 JUN 1931 in Colfax Twp., Wexford Co., Michigan, USA. One record gives her birth occuring at Howard City, Michigan and her death occurring on 3 June 1931.
