DOROTHY HOLLINGER
Dorothy M. Hollinger, Northfield, died June 28, 1987 at her daughter's home
in Menomonie, Wis., after an extended illness. She was 66.
Dorothy Berens was born Oct.28, 1920, to Francis and Ruth Marie (Granger) Berens
in St. Paul. She was educated in Farmington public schools and on Sept. 7, 1938,
married John O. Hollinger in Hastings.
She worked on the kitchen staff at St. Olaf College, Odd Fellows Home and the
Northfield Hospital. She was also employed at Malt-O-Meal and later retired from
Sheldahl.
She was a member of the Stanton United Methodist Church and was a member of
the Eagles Auxiliary. She was also the first president of the women's auxiliary
of the Northfield Eagles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter, four sisters
and two brothers. She is survived by two sons, Larry of Ionia, Mo., and David
of Northfield; two daughters,, Mrs. Lanee Rowell of Menomonie, Wis. and Donna
Hollinger of Northfield; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters,
Betty Brent of Valley City, N.D. and Ruth May Smith of Wilmington, Calif. and
four brothers, Arthur Towler of Wilmington, Calif., Joseph Towler of Minneapolis,
Robert Towler of Cambridge and Jonathan Towler of Richfield.
The funeral was set for Wednesday, July 1 at the Stanton United Methodist Church,
the Rev. Duane Ernst officiating. Soloist will be Mayvis Harkness. Interment
will be in the Stanton Cemetery. Pallbearers chosen were Harry Henwood, John
Broderick, Larry Lace, Larry Olson, Don Lindberg and Paul Kinsella. Arrangments
were made by the Benson Funeral Home, Northfield.
Dorothy worked at Sheldahl, in Northfield,MN., in the 1960's. There has been
some speculation that the work at Sheldahl is related to a high incidence of
cancer.
She was married to John Oswald HOLLINGER (son of John
Peter HOLLINGER and Grace Elizabeth JUDD) in Dakota Co.,
Minnesota. John Oswald HOLLINGER was born on 28 Feb
1912 in Kilkenny, LeSueur Co., Wisconsin. He died on 13 Dec 1974 in Minneapolis,
Hennepin Co., Minnesota. He was a Railroad Lineman. He was buried in Stanton,
Goodhue Co., Minnesota.

John O. Hollinger
John Oswald Hollinger, 62, died Friday, Dec. 13,1974 at the Metropolitan Medical
Center, Minneapolis. He had been a resident of Northfield since 1948. Funeral
services were held Monday, Dec. 16, at Benson-Anderson Funeral Home. The Rev.
Robert Gamble of Stanton Methodist Church officiated. Mrs. Robert Pelkey of Stanton
was the organist. Interment was at the Stanton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold
Kotz, Bernard Hollinger, Edward Hollinger, Larry Johnson, Harry Henwood, and
Jerry Adams.
The son of John and Grace (Judd) Hollinger, John Hollinger was born February
28, 1912, at Kilkenny. He married on Sept. 7, 1938, Dorothy Berens Towler at
Hastings.
Hollinger lived at Kilkenny and Faribault before moving to Northfield. He was
employed by the Minneapolis-Northfield and Southern Railroad.
Surviving Hollinger are his wife, two sons, David Hollinger of Northfield and
Larry Hollinger of Ionia, Mo., two daughters, Lanee Rowell (Mrs. Richard) of
Anoka, and Donna Hollinger of Ionia, Mo., five grandchildren, his mother, Mrs.
Grace Hollinger of Northfield, one sister, Celia Otte (Mrs. Michael) of Stanton.
Hollinger was preceded in death by his father, one brother, and one daughter.
