FOURTH GENERATIONZADOCK HAWKINS Book Information77. Zadock4 HAWKINS (Zadock3 HAWKINS, Zadock2 HAWKINS, Zadock1 HAWKINS) was born about 1815 in Kentucky, USA. He died before 17 Jul 1862. The biography of his son, Jasper, claims Zadock had thirteen children. Probably several of them died young before they appeared on a census or other records. Possibly the biographer included Zadock's stepchildren from his second marriage. In any event, we have uncovered records for seven of his children. He was married to Sarah
OWENS (daughter of Elijah OWENS and
Mary "Polly" HENDRICKS) on 12 Dec 1833 in Bartholomew Co., Indiana,
USA. She was one of three children of Elijah Owens who married a child of Zadock
and Jane (Cooper) Hawkins. Although Elijah Owens was reported to have been married
three times, it is believed that Sarah's mother was Polly Hendricks. Zadock
and Sarah were probably living with and enumerated with his father during the
1840 U.S. Census. They appeared on the 1850 U.S. Census in Richland, Fulton Co,
Indiana. Sarah OWENS was born about 1815 in Kentucky,
USA. She died on 6 Apr 1857. She was buried in Lawson Cemetery, Union Twp.,
Marshall Co., Indiana. Zadock HAWKINS and Sarah OWENS had the following children:
He was married to
Malinda HOUSE (daughter of Andrew HOUSE and
Mary HARBISON) on 31 Dec 1857 in Miami Co., Indiana. She had been married
to George HAMBY prior to her marriage to Zadock. She and George had several children,
some of whom lived close to Zadock' s children by his first wife. Zadock and
Malinda appeared on the 1860 U.S. Census in Richland, Fulton Co., Indiana.
Malinda HOUSE was born about 1811 in Ohio, USA. She was living
two dwellings away from her step daughter Minerva Ellen (HAWKINS) CHICK in Peru,
Miami Co., Indiana during the 1870 census.
