ZADOCK HAWKINS Book Information
76. Elisha4 HAWKINS (Zadock3 HAWKINS, Zadock2 HAWKINS, Zadock1 HAWKINS) was born about 1811 in Kentucky, USA, most likely. Elisha's family appeared on the 1840 U.S. Census in Flat Rock Twp., Bartholomew Co., Indiana. He died on 2 Oct 1849 in Mount Vernon, Waltz Twp., Wabash Co., Indiana. A credible record supports this death date. And the year, 1849, is supported by the records compiled by Dr. Hawkins. However, Elisha's name appeared on the 1850 U.S. Census, which was taken on 27 September 1850. Although his name appears on a census taken nearly a year after the death date reported for him, we believe he probably died in 1849 and his name was added to the census because he was living early in the official census year, which was from 1 June 1849 to 31 May 1850 even though the census taker recorded the census somewhat later.
He was married to Rebecca
BRANDOM (daughter of John BRANDOM and
Margaret WALKER) on 3 Nov 1833 in Bartholomew Co., Indiana, USA. Elisha
and Rebecca appeared on the 1850 U.S. Census in Waltz Twp., Wabash Co., Indiana.
After Elisha's death Rebecca married his younger brother Elijah. Years later
after he had deserted her, she divorced him and married James Finney who had
been married to Denicy Hawkins, sister of Elisha and Elijah Hawkins.
Rebecca BRANDOM was born on 9 Feb 1819 in Indiana, USA. Her maiden
name appears in various records as both Brandom and Brandon. Her maiden name
is listed as RUPE on one record. Undoubtedly this is because Rebecca's father
died when she was young and her mother had remarried to a man named Rupe. Rebecca's
brother Boswell Brandom was the father of Mary Jane Brandom, who married Jasper
Scott Hawkins. She died on 13 Apr 1900 in Argos, Marshall Co., Indiana, USA.
