ZADOCK HAWKINS Book Information

51. William4 HAWKINS (William3 HAWKINS, William Wilmot2 HAWKINS, Zadock1 HAWKINS) was born on 17 Feb 1805 in Pennfield, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick, Canada. Another record suggests he was born on Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick. He died on 14 Oct 1893 in Castle Rock, Dakota Co., Minnesota, USA.

He was married to Margaret Elizabeth CALEFF (daughter of Jedediah Jewett CALEFF and Sarah FOWLER) on 9 Apr 1833 in St. George, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick, Canada. William and Mary appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census in Pennfield Parrish, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick. William removed to Minnesota in 1856. Margaret Elizabeth CALEFF was born on 4 Dec 1812 in Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts. She died on 31 Jan 1892 in Hastings, Dakota Co., Minnesota. Both William and Margaret were buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Nininger Twp., Dakota Co., Minnesota. William HAWKINS and Margaret Elizabeth CALEFF had the following children:

child+239 i. John C.5 HAWKINS.
child240 ii. Sarah5 HAWKINS was born about 1836 in New Brunswick, Canada. She appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census with her parents in Pennfield Parish, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick. She died in Minnesota, most likely.
child+241 iii. Elizabeth K. "Lizzie"5 HAWKINS.
child+242 iv. Pheobe5 HAWKINS.
child+243 v. Mary Ellen5 HAWKINS.
child+244 vi. Dorothy J. "Dolly"5 HAWKINS.
child245 vii. William "Henry"5 HAWKINS was born about 1844 in New Brunswick, Canada. He appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census with his parents in Pennfield Parish, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick. He died in Minnesota, most likely. In 1917 he was living in Lamberton, Redwood Co., Minnesota.
child246 viii. Margaret A.5 HAWKINS was born about 1846. She died on 28 May 1847. She was one year old when she died.
child+247 ix. Huldah A.5 HAWKINS.
child248 x. Grace5 HAWKINS was born about 1854 in New Brunswick, Canada. She appears as a 16-year-old with William and Margaret Hawkins and their son, William H. "Henry" Hawkins on the 1870 census. However she does not appear on the 1860 census with them suggesting that she might be a niece, a grandchild or even unrelated, instead of being William and Margaret's child. She may have been accidentally omitted from the 1860 census. The main reason she is placed as the child of William and Margaret (Caleff) Hawkins is because she appears on that 1870 census with the notation that her father was foreign born and her mother was born in the United States. This is consistent with the nativity of William and Margaret (Caleff) Hawkins and is the same designation of parents' nativity that was given her brother William H. "Henry" Hawkins on that same census.
