He was married to Mary L. BUCHER (daughter of John BUCHER and Rosina WHITTER) on 20 Mar 1905 in Geneva, Adams Co., Indiana. All of their children were born in Ray, Williams Co., North Dakota, on the family homestead. At some point, probably during the depression, they lost the homestead and moved to Avoca, Williams Co., North Dakota, where they lived in a two-room shack for quite a few years. Ed worked in a coal mine. The children went to school in Avoca for two years and then went to Penman School until they finished the eighth grade. Edward and Mary lived in Williston, North Dakota in 1933. Mary L. BUCHER was born on 11 Nov 1884 in Geneva, Adams Co., Indiana, most likely. She died on 5 Mar 1937 in Willistion, Williams Co., North Dakota. She may have died from undiagnosed diabetes. Edward REED and Mary L. BUCHER had the following children:
