81. Elijah F.⁴ HAWKINS (Zadock³ HAWKINS, Zadock² HAWKINS, Zadock¹ HAWKINS) was born on 11 Nov 1827 in Kentucky, USA. He died on 26 Sep 1908 in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon. Dr. Hawkins' book has the following to say about Elijah. "After a somewhat stormy married life, Elijah deserted Rebecca Hawkins and emigrated to Texas where he was again married and raised a family of children. He later moved to Portland, Oregon where he died September 30, 1908 [death record says 26 Sept. 1908] at the age of 80 years."

He was married to Rebecca BRANDOM (daughter of John BRANDOM and Margaret WALKER) on 17 Oct 1852 in Fulton Co., Indiana. Rebecca was the widow of Elijah's older brother, Elisha, who died around 1850. Elijah and Rebecca appeared on the 1860 U.S. Census in Washington Twp., Miami Co., Indiana. He was divorced from Rebecca BRANDOM on 2 Jan 1891. That is the official date that appears on the divorce that Rebecca received. However, Elijah had clearly deserted Rebecca long before that, as she appeared alone, without Elijah, on the 1870 U.S. Census in Peru City, 2nd Ward, Miami Co., Indiana. After her divorce from Elijah was finalized, she married James Finney, who had been married to Denicy Hawkins until her death. Rebecca BRANDOM was born on 9 Feb 1819 in Indiana, USA. Her maiden name appears in various records as both Brandom and Brandon. Her maiden name is listed as RUPE on one record. Undoubtedly this is because Rebecca's father died when she was young and her mother had remarried to a man named Rupe. Rebecca's brother Boswell Brandom was the father of Mary Jane Brandom, who married Jasper Scott Hawkins. She died on 13 Apr 1900 in Argos, Marshall Co., Indiana, USA.

407 ii. Charles H.⁵ HAWKINS was born about 1857 in Indiana, USA. He appeared on the 1860 U.S. Census with his parents in Washington Twp. , Miami Co., Indiana. In 1870 and 1880 he appeared on the U.S. Census with his mother in the City of Peru, Miami Co., Indiana, his father having deserted the family. As an adult he contracted tuberculosis and died at the home of his uncle, Ezra Hawkins.

He was married to Sarah E. DUNCAN about 1865 in Kentucky, USA, most likely. Elijah and Sarah appeared on the 1870 U.S. Census in St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri. In 1880 they appeared on the U.S. Census in Dallas, Texas. Sarah E. DUNCAN was born about 1839. She died on 7 Apr 1892 in Lafayette, Yamhill Co, Oregon. Elijah F. HAWKINS and Sarah E. DUNCAN had the following children:

410 ii. Elijah F.⁵ HAWKINS Jr. was born on 20 Mar 1868 in Missouri, most likely. He appeared on the 1870 U.S. Census with his parents in St Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri and in the 1880 U.S. Census with them in the city of Dallas, Dallas Co., Texas. The 1870 census places his birth in Missouri whereas the1880 census places his birth in Kentucky. He died on 27 Oct 1886 in Oregon, USA, most likely.

He was married to Maria J. BURCH (daughter of Reuben BIRCH and Julia) on 9 May 1897 in Oregon, USA, most likely. Elijah and Maria appeared on the 1900 U.S. Census in Warren Pct., Columbia Co., Oregon. Maria J. BURCH was born on 9 Jul 1846 in Pennsylvania, USA. She died on 6 Oct 1902 in Multnomah Co., Oregon. She was buried in Lone Fir Cemetery. Various records spell her name as BURCH and BIRCH.

He was married to Sarah J. on 19 Dec 1906 in Portland, Oregon. Sarah J. was born about 1847 in Tennessee.
