THIRD GENERATION

31. Abner³ HUNT (John² HUNT, Jacob¹ HUNT) was born in Apr 1844 in Upshur Co., West Virginia. Of course, at that time it was Virginia. He died on 7 May 1865 in Jacksonville, Florida. Abner joined the W.Va. Cavalry on June 27, 1861 as part of the Union Army. After his enlistment was up, he returned home and married Serena Ann Howes on March 20, 1864. He then re-enlisted and was captured on June 26, 1864 in Virginia. He was sent to Andersonville, Georgia, and was later moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he died of typhoid fever, still a Confederate prisoner. Ironically, his death was about a month after General Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox but still about a month before the last Confederate troops surrendered.

He was married to Serena Ann HOWES on 20 Mar 1864 in West Virginia.
