George3 HILLARD was born on 26 JUL 1836 in Miller Twp., Knox Co., Ohio,
USA. He died on 2 APR 1864 in Decatur, Alabama, USA. He never married. George
volunteered for service in the Union Army in the Civil War, volunteering at Newark,
Ohio, on 29 February 1864. Less than a month later, on about 25 March he contracted
measles while stationed near Decatur, Alabama. He died on 2 April 1864 at a hospital
in Decatur. His grave marker and numerous documents his family filed in connection
with pension applications for his mother suggest that he died on or about 1 April
1864. However, in response to a request for information about his death on 1
April 1864, the Adjutant General's report clearly indicates that he died on 2
April 1864, with the "2" underlined to indicate that the date is in
fact the second of April.
