Hattie Ellen⁹ GARN (Martin⁸ GARN, Susanna⁷ GARN, John⁶ GARN, Johannes⁵ GERN, Johann Adam⁴ GERN, Johannes³ GERN, David² GERN, Johannes¹ GERN) was born on 13 Jul 1875 in Beatrice, Gage Co., Nebraska, USA. She appeared on the 1880 U.S. Census with her parents in Beatrice Twp., Gage Co., Nebraska. About 15 years later after her parents had moved to Eden Twp., Mason Co., Michigan, she had a son, Claud, whose father was an American Indian. There is no record of the name of Claud's father or that he and Hattie ever married. After Hattie's death, Claud lived with her uncle, John Hawkins, and took his last name. She died on 29 Nov 1900 in Eden Twp., Mason Co., Michigan, USA.

Lettie appears as Lettie Garn, person #1960, in The Family of Zadock Hawkins. At the time we wrote that book, we were uncertain if Frank Martin was her father. Her death record reports she was one year old at death and that her father was Frank Martin.
