Two obituaries report that he died on Wednesday, which would have been 6 February. We are unsure of his actual birth date. McBride and Capener (p. 169B) report that he was born on 8 July 1848. His age at death on his death record gives a birth date of 9 July 1848. However, his birth date is also given on his death record, which is 9 September 1848. This latter date seems to be corroborated by the 1900 U.S. Census, which reports that he was born in September 1848.

He was married to Mary Emma SMITH (daughter of Horace SMITH and Ann BATES) on 13 Dec 1874 in Sandusky Co., Ohio, USA. Mary Emma SMITH was born on 21 Mar 1858 in Rising Sun, Wood Co., Ohio, USA. She died on 8 Feb 1940 in Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., Ohio, USA. Levi GARN and Mary Emma SMITH had the following children:
