born on 11 MAY 1835 in Ohio, USA. He appeared with his parents on the 1850 U.S.
Census in Perry Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio. He died on 20 AUG 1918 in Conklin, Chester
Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan, USA. Henry was a farmer. He also worked as a baker
in Howard City, Michigan. At one point he worked as a traveling salesman. Henry
was blind for about the last 35 years of his life.
He was married to Harriet FIELD (daughter of Edward FIELD
and Eliza FULLER) on 22 MAR 1857 in Chester Twp., Ottawa Co.,
Michigan, USA. Henry and Harriet appear in the 1860 U.S. Census in Chester Twp.,
Ottawa Co., Michigan, where they were listed about a dozen families before her
father was listed. Harriet FIELD was born on 13 MAY
1837 in Leray, Jefferson Co., New York. She was living with her parents in Litchfield
Twp., Medina Co., Ohio when the 1850 U. S. census was taken. She died in 1862.
Most likely she died in Ottawa Co., Michigan where she and Henry were living
at the time. She was a school teacher. Henry J. HILLARD and Harriet FIELD had
the following children:
He was married to Sarah Ophelia STEWART (daughter of Benjamin
STEWART and Rachel SYERS) on 9 JAN 1864 in Grand Rapids, Kent
Co., Michigan, USA. Henry and Sarah appeared on the 1870 U.S. Census in Wright
Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan. Ten years later they appeared on the census in Chester
Twp., Ottawa Co., Michigan. In 1910, after Sarah's death, Henry appeared on the
census in the home of his son George in Selma Twp., Wexford Co., Michigan.
Sarah Ophelia STEWART was born about 1840 in Pennsylvania, USA.
She appeared on the 1850 U.S. Census with her parents in Erwin Twp., Steuben
Co., New York. She died on 15 JAN 1902 in Muskegon, Muskegon Co., Michigan,
USA. Henry J. HILLARD and Sarah Ophelia STEWART had the following children:
