He was married to Margaret Alma MCFARLIN (daughter of John A. MCFARLIN and Sarah E. WARNER) on 22 Sep 1895 in West Twp., Marshall Co., Indiana, USA. Margaret Alma MCFARLIN was born on 10 Feb 1872 in West Twp., Marshall Co., Indiana, USA. Ira Monroe GARN and Margaret Alma MCFARLIN had the following children:

child1339 i. Katherine Elizabeth10 GARN was born on 28 Oct 1905 in Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana, USA. She never married. She died on 21 Nov 2000 in Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana, USA. She was buried in New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth. A part of her obituary reads as follows:

A Wythoan Doll Club member, she was a charter member of the American Association of University Woman, Ala New Chapter of Deta Kappa Gamma, Marshall County Historical Society, Friends of Ancilla College, a 75-year member of the Beta Delta Chapter of Tri Kappa, Colonial Dames, New England Women, DAR, Ancient and Honorable, the Indiana Retired Teacher Association and the First United Methodist Church of Plymouth.

Katherine graduated from Plymouth High School in 1923 and Indiana University in 1927. In 1936 she received her masters degree at the University of Wisconsin where she graduated cum laude.

From 1927 to 1972 she taught history at Plymouth High School. She also did substitute teaching for six years for Mr. Houston.

Katherine was quite active in starting the first kindergarten in Plymouth and to get the first woman on the school board, Mrs. A. Marsh. She was also instrumental in getting the first town hall started.

She is survived by several cousins.
