Stewart and his brother Gerald owned and operated Garn Glass Company in Cadillac, Michigan, from the early 1950's until the late 1970's.

He was married to Helen Frances NIXON (daughter of Frank Harlan NIXON and Chloie Adell SMITH) in Meauwataka, Wexford Co., Michigan, USA. Helen Frances NIXON was born on 17 Nov 1914 in Cherry Grove Twp., Wexford Co., Michigan, USA. She died on 1 Dec 2012 in Jackson, Jackson Co., Michigan, USA. Shortly before she turned 92 years old the Citizen Patriot newspaper in Jackson, Michigan, carried a story about how she volunteered to tutor reading at the local elementary school and was helping a fourth grader with reading. She enjoyed the tutoring very much. Stewart Darrell GARN and Helen Frances NIXON had the following children:
