166. Jacob⁸ GARN (George⁷ CARN, Frederick⁶ GARN, Johannes⁵ GERN, Johann Adam⁴ GERN, Johannes³ GERN, David² GERN, Johannes¹ GERN) was born on 20 Apr 1822 in Union Twp., Bedford Co., Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 21 Aug 1879 in Scott Twp., Sandusky Co., Ohio, USA.

He was married to Catharine KLOTZ on 6 Oct 1846 in Sandusky Co., Ohio, USA. Catharine KLOTZ was born on 27 Aug 1823. She died on 11 Sep 1891 in Scott Twp., Sandusky Co., Ohio, USA, most likely. McBride and Capener place Jacob's wife as the daughter of David Klotz and Elizabeth Garn and report that Catharine was born in 1831. We question this report. Catharine, the daughter of David Klotz and Elizabeth Garn would have been only 13 years old when married if actually born in 1831. But Catharine, the wife of Jacob Garn, was born in 1823, a date consistent with censuses on which she appeared and with her grave marker. And if the Catharine who married Jacob was the daughter of David Klotz and Elizabeth Garn, then she should have appeared as their second child, born 16 months after the child currently listed as their first and 14 months before the child currently listed as their second child. We have not resolved these questions and therefore are reluctant to place Jacob' s wife as the daughter of David Klotz and Elizabeth Garn.
