GARN Book Information

512. Socrates8 GARN (Samuel7 GARN, Jacob6 GARN, Conrad5 GERN, Johann Adam4 GERN, Johannes3 GERN, David2 GERN, Johannes1 GERN) was born about 1861 in Ohio, USA. He was indexed as Custis in the 1870 U.S. Federal Census, and appears as Socratus on the 1880 Census, Socrates on his first marriage record, Socrates on marriage record of his son George Wallace or Wallace George Garn, Crate Garn on his second marriage record, Crete Garn on the 1900 Census, Crate Garn on the 1910 Census, and as Crate Garn, the father of Claud Garn in his son's World War I Draft Registration Card.

He was married to Cora E. WONDERS (daughter of George W. WONDERS and Emma) on 15 Sep 1886 in LaGrange Co., Indiana, USA. Two records report that Socrates Garn and Cora E. Wonders married on 15 September 1886. One reports that they married on 4 September 1886. Cora E. WONDERS was born about 1861 in Indiana, USA. Her name appears as both Wonder and Wonders in the records. Socrates GARN and Cora E. WONDERS had the following children:

child+1046 i. George Wallace9 GARN.

He was married to Elizabeth PUGH on 31 Jul 1896 in Traverse City, Grand Traverse Co., Michigan, USA. Elizabeth PUGH was born about 1861 in Indiana, USA. Some have incorrectly reported her maiden name as Roop. But this was her name from a previous marriage. Stepchildren of Crate Garn on the 1900 Census by the name Roop suggest that she had been married before. And her marriage record to Crate Garn indicates that both she Crate had been previously married and that her father's name was Pugh. A Ray Garn appearing on the 1910 Census of Elizabeth and her husband Crate Gern is undoubtedly the stepson Ray Roope who appears on the 1900 Census with Crate and Elizabeth Garn. Socrates GARN and Elizabeth PUGH had the following children:

child1047 i. Claud9 GARN was born on 31 Dec 1899 in Traverse City, Grand Traverse Co., Michigan, USA. He died in Jul 1956. He registered for the draft for World War I at Muskegon, Michigan. The registration named Crate Garn as his father.
