GARN Book Information

59. Adam⁶ GARN (Conrad⁵ GERN, Johann Adam⁴ GERN, Johannes³ GERN, David² GERN, Johannes¹ GERN) was born on 19 Aug 1788 in New Jersey, USA. He died on 21 Dec 1868 in Mohican Twp., Ashland Co., Ohio, USA. We place him as a son of Conrad Gern because Y-DNA test results are a very close match to descendants of other known members of the family, because Conrad Gern had a son who was 10 to 15 years old on the 1800 U.S. Federal Census, becasue he was married in Chambersburg, which is near where Conrad Gern lived because his son John was born in Franklin (state not specified but obviously Pennsylvania), and because he was born too early to have been the son of other Garn/Gerns in the area.

He went mostly by the name Adam. However, the name on his grave marker is John A. Garn. And he appears as John Garn in some of the early censuses.

Information for his record was provided by his son Jacob, who reported that Adam was a farmer and died of old age.

127 iii. Adam Henry⁷ GARN was born about 1820. He died on 13 Dec 1840 in Ashland Co., Ohio, USA. His birth year is an estimate. Although the grave marker, , Memorial# 103753569, reports that he was the son of Adam and Eve Garn, we believe that his mother was Adam's first wife based on the 1840 Census of Adam Garn in Mohican Twp., Wayne Co., Ohio, which reports only one male child in the home. This child, age 5-9, was most certainly Adam and Eve's son Solomon, who would have been eight years old. This suggests that Adam Henry Garn was already out of the home when the 1840 Census was taken. And this would generally not be true if he were twelve years old or under, the age he would have been if Eve's son. Also, it would not have been unusual to report that he was Eve's son even if he were a step-son. Therefore we believe he was the son of Adam's first wife. Having made this assumption, we confess that we have no idea where to place him in the family. The birth year is an estimate.

He was married to Eve CELL on 10 Jun 1828 in Chambersburg, Franklin Co., Pennsylvania, USA. Eve CELL was born on 30 Mar 1802 in Franklin Co., Pennsylvania, USA, most likely. She died on 4 Feb 1894 in Perry Twp., Ashland Co., Ohio, USA. Adam GARN and Eve CELL had the following children:
