Europe Trip - September 2012
In September 2012 my
brother Stan and I went to Europe. The main purpose of our trip was to visit Kürnbach, Germany, the
ancestral home of the Garn family or Gern family as the name was spelled in Germany and in several
documents associated with the early Garn immigrants in America.
We also planned a visit to Malmédy, Belgium,
and the Baugnez Crossroads where our Uncle Howard Nixon narrowly escaped being a victim in the Malmédy
Massacre during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
We also visited Paris; the Wine Country in the Mosel River Valley in Germany; Verdun, France, the site of a famous battle between Germany and France during World War I; and Worms, Germany, site of the Diet of Worms where Martin Luther was
tried for heresy by the Catholic Church, and the oldest Jewish cemetery in Europe.
The links below are to the stories and pictures associated with the various places we visited.
